SOLVE PROBLEMS AND MAKE DECISIONS
Leaders have the ability to make quality decisions and solve problems. Solving problems
requires leaders to use rigorous logic and methods to solve difficult problems and identifying
the known data by pursuing fruitful sources for answers. They are excellent at honest analysis
and look beyond the obvious and do not stop at first answers. Good decisions are based upon a
mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment. Making quality decisions in
organizations today means working in an environment where ambiguity and uncertainty are the
norm. Sound decisions come from a balance between speed and quality.
DRIVE ENGAGEMENT
Greater things can happen when people are engaged. Engaged employees are more productive
because their work behaviour is energized, focused, and more aligned to the needs of the
organization. Retention rates are higher among engaged employees because they are
challenged by their work in the context of a supportive environment with a caring, encouraging,
and empowering leader. Skilled leaders structure the work, so it aligns with people’s goals and
motivations. They empower others and make each person feel his or her contributions are
important, invites input and shares ownership and visibility, and shows a clear connection
between people’s motivators and the organizational goals.
